Christopher Benjamin

Chris Benjamin is president and chief executive officer of Alexander & Baldwin, Inc. Prior to his appointment on January 1, 2016, Benjamin served as A&B’s president and chief operating officer since September 2011. In this role, Benjamin oversaw the Company’s real estate and agribusiness subsidiaries. Before becoming president and COO, Benjamin was A&B’s chief financial officer from February 2004 through September 2011. From March 2009 through March 2011, Benjamin additionally served as general manager of Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Company, overseeing the operations and finances of that business.

Benjamin joined A&B in 2001 as director, corporate development and planning, and was promoted to vice president in 2003.

Prior to joining A&B, Benjamin held positions with General Motors Corporation, Sony Corporation, Booz – Allen & Hamilton and The Queen’s Health Systems.

Benjamin holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Michigan and a master’s degree in business administration from Harvard Business School. Benjamin currently serves on the boards of various non-profit organizations and is chair of Hale Kipa’s Capital Cabinet.


Meredith Ching 2017

Meredith Ching

Meredith Ching is senior vice president of government and community relations of Alexander & Baldwin. She joined A&B in 1982 and held various positions within the organization before being named vice president, corporate natural resources in 1988, responsible for land and water use issues for the company. Over the years, government relations and community relations responsibilities were added and in 2007, she was promoted to senior vice president. Before coming to A&B, Ching held the position of financial analyst with the Dillingham Corporation for two years.

Ching has served on numerous non-profit boards. Her community involvement currently includes the boards of Kapiolani Health Foundation, Hawaii Agricultural Foundation, Hawaii Ag & Culinary Alliance, and the A&B Sugar Museum. Past community involvement includes service on the boards of Nature Conservancy of Hawaii, YMCA, HMSA, Girl Scouts of Hawaii, Hawaii Nature Center, Palama Settlement, Neighborhood Justice Center, and Child and Family Service.

Her past government service activities included appointments to the State of Hawaii Commission on Water Resource Management, the State Board of Agriculture, City & County of Honolulu Charter Commission, Mayor’s Task Force to develop the Pacific Nations Center and the Governor’s Task Force on the Department of Environmental Protection.

She holds a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from Stanford University and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of California at Los Angeles.



Nelson Chun

Nelson Chun is senior vice president and chief legal officer of Alexander & Baldwin. He joined A&B in November 2003 as vice president and general counsel.

Prior to joining A&B, he was a partner at the Honolulu law firm of Cades Schutte and a member of the firm’s Management Committee and Partner Compensation Committee. He had also been the Chair of the firm’s Business Organizations Practice Group and its Health Care Practice Group. He joined Cades Schutte in 1978, and became a partner in 1983.

While in private practice, he had been elected by his peers as one of “America’s Best Lawyers” and as one of “America’s Leading Business Lawyers,” as noted in the Chambers and Partners USA Guide.

Before joining Cades Schutte, he was a law clerk to The Honorable Dick Yin Wong, Judge, United States District Court, District of Hawaii, from 1977 to 1978.

He is a 1974 graduate of Claremont McKenna College, and a 1977 graduate of Northwestern University School of Law.



Paul Ito

Paul Ito is senior vice president, finance and treasurer of Alexander & Baldwin. He joined A&B in 2005 as director of internal audit, and was named controller in 2006. In 2007, Ito was promoted to vice president, controller and assistant treasurer.

Prior to joining A&B, Ito worked for Deloitte & Touche for nine years, where in his most recent position, he was a senior manager in the accounting consultation and research group of Deloitte’s San Francisco national office. Ito is a certified public accountant and holds a master’s degree of professional accounting with a concentration in managerial accounting from the University of Texas at Austin, and a bachelor’s degree in finance and marketing from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Ito has earned several prestigious academic honors including the Elijah Watt Sells Gold Medal Award for obtaining the highest score in the nation on the May 1996 CPA exam.

James Mead

Jim Mead is chief financial officer of Alexander & Baldwin. He was appointed on July 10, 2017.

Mead most recently served as chief financial officer for SL Green Realty Corporation, a real estate investment trust and the largest office landlord in New York City, from late 2010 to early 2015. Prior to joining SL Green, Mead served as chief financial officer of Strategic Hotels & Resorts from 2004-2010. He was CFO for Irvine Apartment Communities from 1993 to 1999, and held executive positions with Irvine Company from 1991 to 1993 and JP Morgan Chase from 1985 to 1991.

Mead holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Tulane University and a master’s in business administration from the University of Virginia. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for Easterly Government Properties, The CenterCap Group, and Tulane University School of Science and Engineering.



Son-Jai Paik

  • Vice President, Human Resources

Son-Jai Paik is vice president, human resources for Alexander & Baldwin. He joined the company in 2007.

Paik began his career in human resources in 1998 in CIGNA Corporation’s Human Resource Development Program, a rotation-based program aimed at developing future HR leaders. In 2000, he joined Cigna International Expatriate Benefits (CIEB) and held a series of positions with increasing responsibility within CIEB before being appointed, in 2003, vice president of human resources for LINA Korea, CIGNA International’s largest operation in the Asia Pacific region and the second largest contributor of divisional revenues and earnings worldwide. At LINA Korea, Paik was a strategic partner with business unit executives and oversaw all human resources functions including search and staffing, leadership planning and development, compensation and benefits, employee relations and general HR services.

Paik is a graduate of Syracuse University with a bachelor’s degree in economics and earned master’s degrees from Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration and the School of Industrial and Labor Relations.


Lance Parker

Lance Parker is president of A&B Properties, overseeing real estate for the company. He has served as president since September 1, 2015. He is also the company’s principal broker. He has held several positions since joining the company in 2004, and most recently was senior vice president of acquisitions & dispositions. Prior to joining A&B, he was an associate vice president with Grubb & Ellis in California, where he provided commercial brokerage, advisory and transactional services.

Parker is a graduate of the University of Southern California, with a bachelor’s degree in real property management and development. Parker serves on the boards of Bishop Museum and Historic Hawaii Foundation.


Gordon Yee

Gordon Yee is president of Grace Pacific. He was appointed president on September 1, 2015, and served as senior vice president and chief financial officer for Grace for nine years prior to his appointment. Prior to joining Grace, Yee held various finance, accounting and consulting positions with the Hawaii Newspaper Agency, Hawaii Pacific Elevator, Arthur Young & Company, and the Matsumoto Group.

Yee earned a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Hawaii. He is a certified public accountant in the State of Hawaii and is a member of the AICPA and HSCPA.
