Christopher J. Benjamin

  • President & Chief Executive Officer

Christopher J. Benjamin is president and chief executive officer of Alexander & Baldwin, Inc. Prior to his appointment on January 1, 2016, Benjamin served as A&B’s president and chief operating officer since September 2011. In this role, Benjamin oversaw the Company’s real estate and agribusiness subsidiaries. Before becoming president and COO, Benjamin was A&B’s chief financial officer from February 2004 through September 2011. From March 2009 through March 2011, Benjamin additionally served as general manager of Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Company, overseeing the operations and finances of that business.

Benjamin joined A&B in 2001 as director, corporate development and planning, and was promoted to vice president in 2003.

Prior to joining A&B, Benjamin held positions with General Motors Corporation, Sony Corporation, Booz – Allen & Hamilton and The Queen’s Health Systems.

Benjamin holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Michigan and a master’s degree in business administration from Harvard Business School. Benjamin currently serves on the boards of various non-profit organizations and is chair of The Nature Conservancy – Hawaii.



Meredith J. Ching

Meredith J. Ching is senior vice president of government and community relations of Alexander & Baldwin, Inc. She joined A&B in 1982 as executive assistant-corporate natural resources. In 1986, she was promoted to director-natural resources development. She was named vice president in April 1988. In 2007, she was promoted to senior vice president.

Before coming to A&B, Ching held the position of financial analyst with the Dillingham Corporation for two years.

Ching is a board member and past president of the Land Use Research Foundation, and a member of the Urban Land Institute Hawaii District Council’s Executive Committee. Her community involvement currently includes the boards of the Girl Scouts of Hawaii, Hawaii Nature Center and Kapiolani Health Foundation. Past community involvement includes service on the boards of Nature Conservancy of Hawaii, YMCA, HMSA, Palama Settlement, Neighborhood Justice Center, and Child and Family Service.

Her past government service activities included the State of Hawaii Commission on Water Resource Management, the State Board of Agriculture, City & County of Honolulu Charter Commission, Mayor’s Task Force to develop the Pacific Nations Center and the Governor’s Task Force on the Department of Environmental Protection.

She holds a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from Stanford University and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of California at Los Angeles.



Nelson N.S. Chun

Nelson Chun is senior vice president and chief legal officer of Alexander & Baldwin, Inc. He joined A&B in November 2003 as vice president and general counsel.

Prior to joining A&B, he had been a partner with the Honolulu law firm of Cades Schutte LLP, where he had been a member of the firm’s Management Committee and its Partner Compensation Committee. He had also been the Chair of the firm’s Business Organizations Practice Group and its Health Care Practice Group. He joined Cades Schutte in 1978, and became a partner in 1983.

While in private practice, he had been elected by his peers as one of “America’s Best Lawyers” and as one of “America’s Leading Business Lawyers,” as noted in the Chambers and Partners USA Guide.

Before joining Cades Schutte, he was a law clerk to The Honorable Dick Yin Wong, Judge, United States District Court, District of Hawaii, from 1977 to 1978.

He is a 1974 graduate of Claremont McKenna College, and a 1977 graduate of Northwestern University School of Law.



Paul K. Ito

Paul K. Ito is senior vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer of Alexander & Baldwin, Inc. He joined A&B in 2005 as director of internal audit, and was named controller in 2006. In 2007, Ito was promoted to vice president, controller and assistant treasurer.

Prior to joining A&B, Ito worked for Deloitte & Touche for nine years, where in his most recent position, he was a senior manager in the accounting consultation and research group of Deloitte’s San Francisco national office. Ito is a certified public accountant and holds a master’s degree of professional accounting with a concentration in managerial accounting from the University of Texas at Austin, and a bachelor’s degree in finance and marketing from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Ito has earned several prestigious academic honors including the Elijah Watt Sells Gold Medal Award for obtaining the highest score in the nation on the May 1996 CPA exam.



Son-Jai Paik

  • Vice President, Human Resources

In 2007, Son-Jai Paik was named vice president, human resources for Alexander & Baldwin, Inc. He is responsible for all human resources functions for A&B and its subsidiaries, including employee development and training, benefits, and compensation.

Paik began his career in human resources in 1998 in CIGNA Corporation’s Human Resource Development Program, a rotation-based program aimed at developing future HR leaders. In 2000, he joined Cigna International Expatriate Benefits (CIEB) and held a series of positions with increasing responsibility within CIEB before being appointed, in 2003, vice president of human resources for LINA Korea, CIGNA International’s largest operation in the Asia Pacific region and the second largest contributor of divisional revenues and earnings worldwide. At LINA Korea, Paik was a strategic partner with business unit executives and oversaw all human resources functions including search and staffing, leadership planning and development, compensation and benefits, employee relations and general HR services.

Paik is a graduate of Syracuse University with a Bachelor’s degree in economics and earned Master’s degrees from Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration and the School of Industrial and Labor Relations.
