Founded in 1870 and incorporated in 1900, Alexander & Baldwin is a premier Hawaii company, with interests in commercial real estate, real estate development, agriculture, and materials and construction. We are a 145-year old company, rooted in our Hawaii land heritage, leveraging our unique assets and market knowledge for long-term growth.
Alexander & Baldwin, through its real estate subsidiary, A&B Properties Inc., operates a commercial portfolio comprising 5 million square feet of retail, office and industrial space, consisting of 58 properties in Hawaii and on the U.S. Mainland and develops and sells real property, primarily in Hawaii. A&B Properties also owns over 88,000 acres of land, primarily on the islands of Maui and Kauai.
Much of the landholdings on Maui are in agriculture. On Kauai, McBryde Resources, Inc., leases its 4,000-acre coffee plantation to an international, vertically-integrated coffee company. Both HC&S and McBryde are significant renewable energy producers, generating electricity primarily through renewable hydroelectric, bagasse and photovoltaic sources.
In October 2013, Alexander & Baldwin acquired Grace Pacific, Hawaii’s largest materials and paving company. Grace’s vertically integrated, wholly-owned and joint venture operations include quarries on Oahu and Molokai, a liquid asphalt import terminal on Oahu, and hot mix and paving operations on all of Hawaii’s major islands. Its operations also include Hawaii’s largest road safety and transportation construction services contractor and Hawaii’s only precast/prestressed concrete building materials manufacturer.
