Son-Jai Paik is vice president, human resources for Alexander & Baldwin. He joined the company in 2007.
Paik began his career in 1998 in CIGNA Corporation’s Human Resource Development Program, a rotation-based program aimed at developing future HR leaders.
In 2000, he joined Cigna International Expatriate Benefits (CIEB) and held a series of positions with increasing responsibility within CIEB. In 2003, he was appointed to vice president of human resources for LINA Korea, CIGNA International’s largest operation in the Asia Pacific region and the second largest contributor of divisional revenues and earnings worldwide.
At LINA Korea, Paik was a strategic partner with business unit executives and oversaw all human resources functions including:
- Search and staffing
- Leadership planning and development
- Compensation and benefits
- Employee relations
- General HR services
Education and community commitment
Paik graduated with a bachelor’s degree in economics from Syracuse University and earned master’s degrees from Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration and the School of Industrial and Labor Relations. Paik serves on the boards of Kahala Nui and the Hawaii Theater. He is also a management trustee of the ILWU General Health & Welfare Fund.
